What We're Doing

We are thrilled to be re-opening. Your health and wellness is very important to us and we know that many of you can’t wait to get back to their old routines in our “new normal”. We have new safety measures in place. As we learn more, we’ll be updating this page with the latest—so you can always check back here.

An inherent risk of COVID-19 exposure exists in any public place where people are present. While we have taken enhanced health and safety measures for our members, COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the CDC, guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. By visiting The Aviary, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.  Let's help keep each other healthy!

Studio Changes

  • Coming & Going. We will use two doors for entry and exit to reduce overlap of clients coming and going. At NE you will enter through the door on 2nd Ave and exit through the door that goes to the bathrooms. At Minnetonka you will enter through the door on the left with our logo on it and exit through the door behind the desk. When you are exiting, please carry your shoes to the door and put them on right before you walk out.

  • Equipment Spacing. We have increased spacing between aerial equipment to allow for appropriate social distancing.

  • Class Sizes. We are reopening in phases to allow staff and members to time to adapt to new protocols (click HERE to read details). During the first phase, hammock class sizes will be limited to 9 students, lyra to 4 students and silks to 2 students. Class sizes will increase in Phase 2 to the maximum possible (10 at NE and 14 at W) while maintaining social distancing.

  • Equipment. We have disinfected all equipment (weights, bands and aerial). Hammocks and silks were been treated with an EPA approved, non-chemical antimicrobial spray that kills bacteria and viruses on contact. Lyras will not be taped and will be disinfected between each use. Weights and bands will be disinfected after each use. If you want to learn more about the products we use, email us at

  • Mats. We recommend bringing your own mat and placing it over the top of one of ours so you still have the padding underneath you. Ours will be disinfected between each use and deep cleaned each week so if you do not have a mat, you are welcome to use ours.

  • Leave Promptly. While we love our community and would love to socialize with you, for now we need you to arrive no more than 15 minutes early and leave as soon as possible after class ends.

In the Event of a COVID19 Case

If we are notified of a presumptive or confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 involving a member, visitor or staff, we have a defined protocol for taking swift action.

  • If they visited one of our studios within 14-days prior to notifying us (per CDC guidance), we will notify all members and staff that visited that location during that period.

  • Any staff that was in close proximity with the affected individual during the 14-day period will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days following the affected individual’s last visit.

  • We will immediately cancel classes and close the studio until we can conduct a deep cleaning of the space and all equipment with disinfecting products known to kill the virus.

  • If there is a confirmed diagnosis, tracers working for the Minnesota Dept of Health will directly contact individuals deemed to be at risk of exposure.

  • In the event of a studio closure, members will be notified by email. If the studio that is closed is the only location you go to, email us and we will suspend your membership while we are closed.

New Studio Protocols

  • Masks. We require masks for staff and students at all times before the workout begins. It is optional to wear a mask during a workout given there are medical conditions that preclude it and safety concerns with limited air flow. We are concerned that masks during any type of physical activity can reduce oxygen intake. If you are experiencing faintness or shortness of breath while wearing a mask during class, please step outside of the studio to catch your breathe and ensure your safety.  If you are able to, please wear a mask during the workout to keep our community safer.

  • Wellness Check. Prior to every class you will be required to complete and sign a brief wellness questionnaire. Please bring your own pen, be patient and maintain social distancing while we do this. Our staff will be required to take their own temperature and complete a questionnaire prior to each shift. Our staff may ask to take your temperature with an infrared thermometer. If you consent and have a temperature over 100 you will be asked to leave. To avoid this, please check your temperature at home before coming to class.

  • Clean Everything. A sanitizer station is set up for you to use immediately before you enter the workout area. Use the gel on your hands and the wipes on your water bottle and phone. We will give you wipes after class for mats any equipment you used. Sanitize or wash your hands again as you leave the studio.

  • Cancellation Policy. We will have a 2 hour cancellation policy. This should allow enough time for you to assess if you are well enough to attend class. If you cancel late or no show our standard penalty applied unless you are able to provide medical documentation showing you were unable to attend class.

New Cleaning Protocols

  • Preparing for Your Return. In accordance with governmental orders and guidelines, The Aviary is taking extra precautions to help our community stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices. If you want to learn more about the products we use, email us at

  • Going Forward.

    • We have new protocols for proper disinfection, operation and maintenance and added additional products and procedures to achieve a new level of cleanliness.

    • Staff has been trained on cleaning protocols and disinfectant products and will be disinfecting high-touch surfaces through the studio after each class.

    • Disinfectant wipes will be available for you to use on water bottles and phones.

What You Can Do

Nothing is more important than help to keep ourselves, our friends, families and communities healthy. By following the advice on this page you can help support a safe, phased reopening of our studios. Together we can do our part to help limit the spread of COVID-19, especially to those who are more vulnerable due to age, compromised immunity or pre-existing conditions. Thank you for your cooperation.

  1. Protect Yourself and Others. While enjoying our studios, please help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus:

    • Always sanitize your hands before entering the workout area. Wash your hands vigorously and frequently and do not touch surfaces or door handles after washing (cover your hands with a paper towel or clothing).

    • DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE! You can't get infected by touching dirty surfaces. You get infected by bringing the virus from your hands to your face. If you wash/sanitize your hands immediately before and after class and you do not touch your face, germs that get on your hands from touching things cannot infect you.

    • Assume everyone is asymptomatic. Stay 6 feet apart from other people.

    • Wear a mask. Masks will be required prior to the workout starting and highly recommended during the workout. If you are unable to wear a mask while working out due to health concerns, please make sure you workout as far away from others as possible.

    • If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with your shirt or elbow even when wearing a mask. Wash or sanitize your hands immediately after.

    • Notify us immediately if you are diagnosed with COVID19.

  2. Stay Home if You or Anyone in Your Home is Sick. Remember that COVID-19 may be spread by people who are asymptomatic. But if you have a fever, a cough, shortness of breath or even just feel a little run down, don’t take a chance—stay home. We recommend that persons more vulnerable or at-risk for COVID-19 as identified by the CDC, or who have chronic medical conditions, or who live with someone at high risk, take extra precautions or refrain from taking classes with us during the soft opening.

  3. Be Respectful. Others may make different choices than you for health reasons or otherwise. Our staff will do their best to learn to teach aerial classes safely from a distance, but please be patient. If an instructor or another student asks you to mind your distance, please do so politely so that you can expect the same in return. If an instructor asks you to stop or come down while doing a move, please do so immediately. They only have your safety in mind.

  4. Sources of Information

Please Note

Though businesses are allowed to begin a reopening process, this does not indicate that you are any less prone to contracting Covid-19 or any other contagious infection. It simply means hospitals and health workers are expected to have the capacity to treat the public without becoming overwhelmed. Please continue to practice safe distancing habits, wash hands often, and wear face covering whenever you are in a space with others.

Students with pre-existing health conditions at high risk of serious complications if they contract Covid-19 are strongly discouraged from attending group classes.
